Compression Load Cells

Before choosing compression load cells to suit your application there are key points to be aware of:

  1. Know how the force is going to be applied to the load cell. This is how you maximise the accuracy of the system.
  2. Will there be any misaligned forces? If present, they can damage certain designs of load cells.
  3. Be aware of how the force and re-acting force should be applied to the load cell. Refer to the ‘Loading Mode’ sketch on the product datasheets.
What is compression?

Compression occurs when a compressive stress is applied to a material resulting in its compaction. This leads to a shortening in length, nominally <0.5mm.
