MACHINING

September 2023 marked the beginning of a new, exciting era for PCM, with the arrival of our first CNC machine. As we embark on our journey to bring all machining processes in-house, we are looking forward to having ultimate control over manufacturing processes from start to finish.

Our journey

so far

Remodelling

of Premises

Our ground floor production laboratory and stores area have been relocated to the 1st floor to make way for three new spaces:

•  A large, open area for billet cutting, CNC machining and ultrasonic cleaning.

•  A temperature controlled inspection and laser room.

•  An assembly room for final checks and applying finishing touches.

SolidCAM

Prove-Outs

Since the arrival of our Mazak QT 250MY mill-turn machine, our employees have been honing their skillset with SolidCAM and performing part prove-outs. It has been a steep learning curve, with many unexpected challenges, but one we have relished tackling over recent months.

The End Goal

In time, we aim to improve our prices and already competitive lead times on both our standard and bespoke product ranges.

Eventually, we will also look to maximize the utilization of our CNC machines by providing a sub-contracted machining service for others.

Simultaneous

5-Axis Milling

We already have an order in place for our second CNC machine - a high accuracy simultaneous 5-axis machining centre (Mazak CV5-500) that is scheduled for delivery later this year – we aren’t hanging around!

Keep an eye on our social media pages over the coming months to see how we develop.

Our Capabilities

Currently, we are sufficiently equipped to machine mill-turn components in two operations - the first can be fully automated and run lights out, whilst the efficiency of the second can be optimized through use of 3D printed fixturing.

All parts are laser marked with a unique identification number for traceability, before being ultrasonically cleaned.
